I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes a few months ago because my fasting blood sugar was 113, which I don’t really consider to be very high. Anyway, I have been known to have low blood sugar at times, and when it is low, I usually feel a little shaky. Anyway, I work 3-11 shift at my job and I woke up late today and did not have time to eat anything before work. I am a nurse at a nursing home and I was working on a unit by myself today, so I had 43 patients to myself, so I was very busy during my shift. At around 7:30, I ate one of those little bags of chhez-its and I drank a small cup of grape juice. Then at about 8:30, I felt kind of nauseus and very thirsty, so I checked my sugar and it was 261. I drank a lot of water after that and I checked it again at 10:15 and it was 195. I then checked it again before I left to go home at 11:45 and it was 107. Do you think that this is because I didn’t eat before work and I drank the grape juice and cheez-its? I don’t think that would bring it up so high like that, though. Also, I think it dropped pretty quickly. Also, I take metformin 500 mg twice a day. What do you think? Is this just pre-diabetes still or should I call the dr?
Actually I take the metformin for PCOS. When they drew my blood levels to test me for PCOS, my insulin level was high and my doctor told me that it was interfering with my ovulation, which is why she put me on metformin. She also told me that my insulin level being elevated (I think it was around 36, and I think it’s supposed to be under 24) meant that I had pre diabetes because my pancreas was having to produce too much insulin to keep my sugar levels down.
I recently changed doctors and was told by the new doc that I have diabetes. My old doctor told me that my sugar levels were high, but not in the diabetic range yet. He put me on Metformin to "stave-off" diabetes. At a recent check up, my number was 130. Can someone tell me what this means? If I eat healthy, exercise and lose weight, can I get rid of this? I guess I was kinda blind-sided, and am in need of a lot of information.
THANKS!!!
okay so i got a hold of my doctor today i am 32 weeks pregnant by the way and i was told that my numbers are high and that he is setting me up with a nutrientist? and my blood sugar will have to be monitored does this mean that i have diabetes?if so is it gestational or is it type 1 or type 2?and what will happen?
I was seeing someone and we were seeing each other on and of for 8 months till one day , he was acting strange, distant. he said he had to go, and text me later and told me that he has diabetes. I was like oh no. I just wonder why it took it so long to till me. what if he passed out or his sugar level was extremely low…and i wouldn’t know what was wrong with him. is it embarrassing to tell someone that you have diabetes?
My cousin has been 100 pounds overweight for 10 years but he runs regularly for 3 hours without a problem. He’s in great shape according to heatbeat, blood pressure and sugar level. So is it possible or should he lose the weight?
Got back my results back from test last week and they were at 7.7. This morning after fasting 10 hours, my sugar level was at 104 and urine showed no sugar in it. I am 32 and diabetes runs in my family. Any advice on what may come next. Currently I don’t feel that i have excessive thirst or urination. I have an appointment coming up soon with doctor. Just want to know from others experience what I should expect. Thanks.
My brother just called and told me that. He is an alcoholic and doesn’t eat right. Our mother died from complications from diabetes. I just don’t understand how it can be normal (100) for anyone after drinking beer all day long!
My brother has not been diagnosed with diabetes. He drinks and drinks and drinks and hardly eats except one evening meal. He also abuses pain pills like Vicodin. I am extremely worried about him. He is 54 and I am 52. I am not talking about a child, just a messd up person. Thanks!
spinal steroid shot 11 days ago. Since then I have had readings too high for the meter to read seven days in a row and from a low of 325 to these 600 plus ones. Every day at least 500 plus last 11 days.
Before they were running 170 or so in the am and now 325-350. I had readings 18 months ago over 600 a few times and then only about 5 over 400 (under 450) in the last 18 months. After eating was about 250-375 but now 550 to 600 plus.
I am scared. Afraid to go to hospital as I do not want to be on drugs for this. It was 400 a few days before but maybe that was stress as under a lot but it is never this high.
On top of it the steroid shot did nothing for my back pain, leg pain or paresthesia.
Shouldn’t this be out of my system by now., do you think it will be permanent. They said temporary prior to having the shot but noone said it would raise it this high. I do have a family doctor appointment in 4 days but not wanting to take drugs,. Is there anything I can do to get this crap out of my system.
thanks I just took it and it was 520 as I type. (I have type 2 diabetes that was under control last 4 aics were normal via diet. I also have had a lot of stress ongoing all year and last month messed up my diet a lot.,
any advice would be appreciated .
like i said I got my blood sugar levels checked and it came out negative for diabetes and hyperthyroidism. Whenever I get hungry, my vision starts to blur..once i eat a bit it gets better again. Any ideas as to why this maybe?
Is there a cheap strip/kit at the pharamacy with which to test for blood sugar level at home?
